I've just gotten back from Horizons Europa and had a blast! I made sure to write a new blog post hawksley.dev/blog/hack-club-horizons all about it before I forget. I've also been doing some miscellaneous changes to the descriptions on each page, and my OG images now use text-wrap balance so they look nicer! I've changed from logical css properties back to physical properties (width, height, etc.) because I want to support old or custom browser engines. I've clarified the split licensing that my site uses - a mix of MIT, CC BY, CC BY SA, and ARR. And finally, I discovered I can losslessly compress PNG's just by reprocessing them, so I did that for my whole site. Day 181 / 365 Today I think i roughly finished off the workshop form for my club ysws, but I need to do some minor testing and then il be certain. I think I want to code some stuff tommorow. either that or work a lot on my homework stuffs. Anyways I tried making monkey bread again and it actually came out REALLY good!!

Day 180 / 365 Today was fun but i still wasnt really all that productive. I atleast worked on my homework and did a bit of work on my club ysws, working on the workshop form. but yeah no thats basically it. i did play a lil bit of among us tho and watched a friend play some games outside of that cause i felt really tired. Had a headache all day too... i think i need more water.

Day 178 / 365 I had to wake up really early to drive my brother and dad to a swim meet 1 hour away from home :) so hu yeah from like 6 am to 1:30 i was out of the house. then I had to leave for my weekly hack club meeting!! Il be honest it didnt really go that well. We were working on our hackpad projects, but were running into issues with using fusion360. specifically with moving sketches or whatever the 2d thing is called. idk. theres also the fact that they wildly updated the tutorial, so now our stuff is a bit far from what the tutorial says (for example, our pcbs have a lot of empty space, while the pcbs in the tutorial were strictly around the buttons. and the connector bit was directly underneath a button while in ours thats not the case since we didnt know you could do that). so im going to be looking into how to use fusion360, and maybe if theres any other programs we could use that would be more preferred for my club members.

Day 174 / 365 Today was a lot like yesterday lol. I played a lot of minecraft with a friend of mine!!! We flew around in our create aeronautics airship and did two trial chambers (well, one was a moded variant called a shrine, but same premise). Very fun, but that is what i spent most of my day on lol. I did work a bit more on one of the forms for my club ysws, alongside some small summer class junk. Soon I think i will have something interesting to say in this scrapbook. No this isnt forshadowing, this is me saying it to will it into existance also deltarune tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!! always bet on papyrus knight theory

Day 173 / 365 Today was pretty productive! In the morning, I dropped off my car for repairs (just like general maintenence stuffs) and then I worked on summer class stuff. but when i was done i started working on some of the forms needed for my club ysws :) im not going to elaborate lol!! I also got the minecraft server from yesterday setup and started playing it. Im working on a cool new copper airship thats way bigger than the first one! maybe i can actually put a farm or two in it!! (for the people in the slack from the happenings channel, i edited this image to add the copper airship even though its like later in this thread lol. to my scrapbook readers uh dont question this bit)

Day 168 / 365 I dont really have much to say about today. Woke up late. I worked on my club ysws a bit more, and i think i have it mostly finalized!! Outside of that i didnt really do a lot of coding lol. I played some noita, then modded minecraft with some friends, then i played among us :) it was very chaotic since it was like 9 people in the vc lol. anyways tommorow i really want to lock in on the wild jam game. im going to try and wakeup early!

Day 167 / 365 Heheh. heheheh guys. guys. if you. if you remove the one. its. its. 6. 7. kyajyaYA so funny right right right (i regret everything). Today was good i liked it a lot. Since its summer im going to be meeting with my hack club more, and we met up today!! yay!! We were originally going to meet at the church at 1 (1 hour than usual), but due to some stuff my two hack clubbers didnt actually have anyone to drive them, and their dad was at work so he couldnt open the church for us. so we instead decided to meet at the library, which took them an hour to get a ride from their oldest sibling since they were out at their part time or something. i think. im going to be frank i dont really know im just guessing lol. anyways. we ended up at the library at 2. We just sat at this one really small table, our laptops making a triangle in the center lol. We worked an hour on our hackpads, designing the pcbs!! as for my godot wild jam submission, I eventually got the custom texture upscaler to a good point, and i also made a working "basic brickbreaker" loop for me to add my weird stuff ontop of!

Day 166 / 365 I slept in today so intotality i wasnt all that productive lol. Other than some homwork, I did code 2 tracked hours!!! I decided that im going to be doing godot wild jam, but might as well track the hours too and submit to stardance (i should probably ask if thats okay before i fully ship). Anywhom, the theme incase you didnt know is "mutation", and given my brickbreaker / breakout streak, i thought "what if i made a kaplin flavored brickbreaker". this is eerily becoming a trend, since my last few hack club games were "what if i made a kaplin flavored pet sim" (raise a ceiling), "what if i made a kaplin flavored clicker game" (A.V.I.C.G.T.I.T.M) and "what if i made a kaplin flavored autochess game" (Engrams of chaos). Anyways, tangent aside, the game isnt actually that complex and also plays into my recent noita addiction. Basically, you can apply genes onto your very living and sentient ball (the ball will comment on your bad gameplay). Levels get progressively harder with stronger bricks, and you have a limited number of shots each round. Fail to do that, then your run dies. At the end of each round you get funds, so you can either buy a gene or get a "charity gene" for free. You dont actually know what this charity gene is until you equip it, and once you equip it you cant remove it. Those genes are fairly gimmicky, so its meant to be like "Your desperation caused a curveball to be thrown. Maybe you can adapt and make it the best thing ever?" in my 2 hours today i made some simple ball movement and paddle movement. But how on earth is that 2 hours, you ask? Well i also tried making a few things to replicate a visual effect i once saw in mindustry. So in mindustry the sprites are really smooth, evne though if you scale it up in a art editor they actually arent? So without much research i assumed that they were using some sort of shader to make smooth triangles between pixels (i dont think they actually do that, but thats what i assumed). So i tried replicating that with a shader. It failed. So now im coding my own image upscaler that generates triangles between pixels. Its NEARLY done, but has a few tiny bugs here and there. idk theres probably a name for this but im going to pretend im really smart for coding it myself. oh also uh stardance rng i got 882 i love gambling stardance rng day 2 🎲 882 · ranked #50 so far

Day 165 / 365 Today was good! I worked a lot on my brickbreaker club ysws. By that i mean i made a better example project. I updated the original project i used to even propose the workshop (the game is called autumn breakout but uh you wont find it on my itch since its unlisted). I added some new features, but i made sure to add each feature in its own branch before moving it into one combined main branch, that way if someone wanted to learn how to implement XYZ they could see it without any distractions to other things!!! :D Anyways the features are: Main menu, multiple levels, sturdy and glass bricks, and sound effects. But given how easy I found it to add each of those, I think im going to hold off on making a tutorial for those. Better to learn naturally, no? also i suck at this game, even though its just a simple brickbreaker. (meme attached drawn by my friend night emerald. long story short its a tadc reference when we were watching an episode and the steam popup for me playing one turret showed up, to say "maybe your genuinly bad at one turret", and now whenever i suck at a game he puts new text) anyways outside of that, I played a good bit of noita. I had two really good runs. The first one, I died when I got to the holy mountain right before the underground jungle. One of the enemies on that area can apparently tunnel through walls??? so they went up, tunneled into the holy mountain, angered the gods by doing so, and got the cop enemy guy to show up and kill me instantly. Love this game. And for the second run i actually got to the boss! First run i was able to do that. But i didnt get that far into beating them, only getting them to 90% but im still really happy i got that far!!!

Day 164 / 365 Today was generally cool. Had to wake up early to bring my brother to swim. Then the two of us got some breakfast after at a resturant and it was cool and good. Then i went home, played for an hour, then left again lol. But this time, to a hack club meeting!!!!!!!!!!!! While previously my club was every other week, now that summer has started we are going to every week. Infact, we are actually going to be try doing it a bit sooner than every week. Im planned to meet up with them on tuesday. Anyways, In our meeting today we didnt really do a workshop. Instead, I got them started on hack club stardance ysws!!! Yay!! We were trying to come up with projects to do (i even brought the hack club magazine for inspo) and we eventually decided the 3 of us would make hackpads through the stardance hackpad mission thing. So uh yeah. We got started on that. If i remember correctly, we got the schematic made and next we are to actually make the pcb. But to be honest we were having some issue with hackatime (because im dumb) and we only started using lapse half way through to track time. Its even worse for me since i accidentally stopped my first recording, so i deleted it and made a new one. Oh well! I have a feeling we have plenty more hours left on this project.

Day 163 / 365 Hello everybody, kaplin here, back with another scrapbook post. Today. I uh. existed :) woke up early, did my chores and summer schoolwork, played some noita, and got good progress on 2 projects. Project 1 being my club ysws site. I added a small gallery section. Also added the hackclub flag to the corner like all of the club ysws sites. I think I only really have to just figure out the numbers now!! and also run through the tutorial to make sure its all good, alongside maybe even making some miniguides to help with specific features? Idk. Might just make a total one with all the features in the mini guides. Idk. Project 2 of today was the recode of my game One Turret (available on steam btw go wishlist it or buy it) (dont buy it yet its not really good right now. this next update is all about making the game better rather than new content). I got the decors to load! I suppose i will explain how one turret does its maps. You feed it a tileset and then you can place the tiles and all that. You can rotate these tiles and also edit them to be not-placable-on for gameplay. You can also add full images called decor as decoration for maps. These are handled differently, since its one big image for one tile, rather than a normal tilesheet. anyways its now loaded with the new resource-based system (compared to the old .zip based)!!! So in totality, i think that the map loading is done. Next is the enemy manager!!!

Day 160 / 365 A few important things for me today. For starters: Deltarune chapter 5 release date got announced, so i cant wait for that. My game router rebellion finally got fully approved for horizons (after 30 days including the reship), so now im comfortable with working on it again. I wasnt comfortable before because it felt like i needed to reship because i added new content since my first ship when i was talking with the reviewer. and to be frank i dont really blame horizons or really anyone involved. hack club seems very busy right now, and last i remember fraud squad (or is it called fraud department? lowkey i dont remember) was going through some stuff or smth i dont pay enough attention. In one turret, im working towards getting the drill building to work. but first i need ores. and to get ores i need maps. and im going to be recoding how maps work. Previously, maps were stored in zips. like it would just dump the images there. But im going to be switching to godot resources as they are more scalable and just easier to work with all around. it will shorten my scripts by a whole bunch. im still slightly on the fence about it, because one of the benifits of the zip is that you can disect maps. maybe i can make a special button somewhere that allows you to export a map as a zip? one way, of course. im not going to add a zip -> resource, that removes the whole point of switching in the first place imo. also played a whole bunch of noita. I got a quality of life mod that allows you to keep track better of where you have been, so now i can properly clear the floors and get all the collectibles without going in circles (cuz going in circles causes you to get attacked by enemies which means you need to beeline to the holy temple to heal which sorta locks you out of that floor until you get to floor 3 in which you can backtrack, which at that point there really isnt anything valuable on the earlier floors). Also tried making some cookies but there was too much dough in the pan so it came out as a large tablet of cookie. the inner parts were still raw though so i took off the edges then rebaked the center... for some reason whenever i try to use this specific type of only-add-egg-and-butter batter it always ends up being a clumpy mess instead of... cookies. the image is the inner portion after i rebaked it.

Day 155 / 365 hi silly scrapbookers and scrapbookers who choose to not be silly, kaplin here. Today was fairly productive. I worked on the recode for my game One Turret, and solved a massive problem with the new odd-shape-building support. The issue was that rendering would always use the bottom left tile as a pivot, which would become an issue because lets say you have an L shaped building, and you rotate that 180 degrees. now theres no left corner, so where would the tile be rendered from. So my solution was having it where inside the tile definition json, you define where the "root" of the tile is. Now, rather than rotations being done (and then being offset to be in the same place), it now rotates around your mouse cursor, the tile at your mouse cursor being the root. The texture is also placed at that root, since that root would always exist. I got offsets and such working, which also handles the rotations perfectly. So now not-rectangular buildings work on One Turret yeaaay!!! Outside of that mess, I worked a tad bit on my club ysws site. I WANT to dedicate tommorow to it, but i have some important thing tommorow morning so i lowkey dont know how i will feel after on an unrelated note, today i had like 4 instances where i randomly remembered dreams i had in the past? and not like a oh-hey-i-remember-that type of way, more like a dejavu way where i only remembered it for like a second

Day 154 / 365 Today I started work on my club ysws site aint that cool. yippee! i lowkey didnt get a lot of progress on it since it was lowkey late. in the morning i was doing a mix of sleeping in and working on the jobs+ minecraft modded datapack thingamajig for the group server project i yapped about many posts ago (still happening, we are actually getting close to opening the server i think hopefully idk). I cant say too much about today lol. uh. dont do illegal things. thats my advice of the day 😇

Day 153 / 365 Today was good but... strange. I dont know where all my time went lowkey. Like. I remember sitting at my computer a most of the day like usual, but I dont remember what i really did. I worked on one turret though. I got constructor building working (in specific the "combiner" tile behavior), and even tried a little experiment with a 3-item-combination in a new tile. Previously, it would have been a nightmare to add, but now with the recode its just a simple change in like one json value. I had a call with jared (hack club club operations lead) that went realy good and now I know all i gotta do for my ysws >:) so i will probably be doing that tommorow :) but im going to be real i think the reason i dont remember doing much is due to my issue with like anticipated times. like i will specifically hold off from doing something if i know theres a time where i need to step away from whatever im doing. so i end up just watching youtube until the thing in question happens.

Day 149 / 365 Today was... somehow more unproductive than yesterday!! >:C But it was a generally fun day even though I didnt play that many games. I worked 20 minutes on my horizons quiz game project thing, adding in some cool preview images for each of the gamemodes. I also got "deleting" datasets to work. In reality it just changes it so it hides the quiz. If you attempt to add a new quiz using the same csv, it will just toggle it back to being visible, that way all the configs for that quiz are still saved! Rest of my day was spent out of the house with my dad and brother. I dropped my brother of at swim and ended up just having a bonding moment with my dad at the closest mall. Its a generally unoccupied mall. not a lot of buisness happens there (in terms of the internal mall stuff. the clothes stores and resturants on the outside of it do get a lot of buisness though). me and my dad walked through and had a chat, even walking into a craft store. didnt buy anything but still chatted. We also got some handsoaps that we thought my mom would like :) We got two of a vanilla almond one. One for me. Because I liked it. :yay: i love vanilla smelling things. and cinnamon! anyways after that me, my brother, and my dad went to applebees. im mentioning this because thats like a once-in-a-blue-moon-during-a-solar-eclipse thing and its lowkenuinly been like 3 years. when we got home it turns out my mom had recently gotten hand soaps. so now we just have 15 things of hand soap. please help. 5 hand soaps per sink including the kitchen😭 and on my horizons stuff. I think ive ultimately come to the conclusion that im NOT going to be going to nexus for various reasons. One of the reasons is the hours required. Especially given hackclub stardance is happening soon. I plan to be starting a thing with my club to get them into stardance so they can make some stuff. Also that club ysws, and other stuff. Im going to be getting a lot busier soon so im less confident in getting the hours. other reason is I dont think i really want to go anymore. Dont get me wrong it sounds fun but like. is it really worth all the hours? I mean I definently think I had great memories at hackclub shiba, but that was a whole week. nexus, last i checked, is a nonstop hackathon over a weekend. So yeah uh. i think im going to cash my hours and possibly move my study app to a different program (i hear macondo has a lot of good prize options). If i were to ship my moved aces project as is, i would most likely get 2 steam game grants (for publishing a game on steam) and 4 blahaj plushies :)

Day 128 / 365 Forgot to mention in my other post that my aces game got moved over to horizons, but its probably going to be a minute before i work on it to get it into a shippable state. Im thinking of what I want to do next for it. Lowkey im considering a rebrand, since my dad a while back made a comment on the fact I chose a generally occult theming, and now i feel a bit uncomfortable with keeping that. I really shouldnt let his opinions sway my artistic visions but its sorta hard not do, given hes my father. anywhom today I was a bit busy with school and some other stuff. For example I was trying to drive my brother to his swim practice, but due to the traffic, he was going to be so late that me, him, and my dad decided that he should just skip it. we did, then we ate at an italian resturant we havent had in a long while. Good times. I worked on my horizons game a bit, I updated the inventory system so it actually uses up items. I think im going to try and add status effects next. Lowkey not excited for tommorow, even though I have a hack club meeting. Day 127 / 365 Where do i even begin. I will start with non hackclub stuff. I went to a banquet for the honors college thing at my community college. I will be honest I really dont know what it was about. Me and my little brother had to leave early since after that we had tutoring at the local church. I didnt have to participate since I was studying for test that I really gotta do good on. Now onto the hackclub stuff. Worked on my horizons game, adding in proper ui for the inventory. Jared, the hack club club operations lead, saw one of my earlier scrapbook posts (day 115) about my custom workshop i did with my club and really liked it. He reached out, and there may or may not be a certain official ysws coming to a hack club near you. Also possibly a certain post inside the club leaders newsletter. I say maybe because a lot of things can happen in life lol. Maybe aliens visit and steal all the computers. Hope that doesnt happen!

Day 117 / 365 I liked today, today was good. I worked a bit more on that minecraft modpack team stuff, mostly just fixing up tags and setting up item restrictions, all that jazz. BUT i did do something actually cool today! I started work on my hack club horizons project. Im going to be making a game called "Router Rebellion". The core idea is an topdown action rpg where the main gimmick is you create your own bullets in a sort of node-graph system. Ive been thinking about this game idea for a good while and have come up with some insane worldbuilding for it. No spoilers >:3 If you notice a slight similarity to my long term project (one turret) (wishlist on steam wink wink nudge nudge), then you would be correct in your assumption. The factory-that-creates-bullets-that-the-user-uses-as-a-weapon element in the game idea actually stems a LONG time ago when I was first making one turret and was considering what I wanted to make. After 2 years im finally using the idea! I only actually worked on the game for 1 hour today, but I got some pretty good player and camera movement going. Should also support controller if i set up the godot stuff right, will check later. I also improved the shader im using from a few days ago to replicate my 2d style for this horizons project.

Day 116 / 365 Today I locked in quite a bit. Since its been a while since I worked on that modpack stuff, I started working on that again. I was starting to feel bad from not contributing, given that its entirely a team effort. I also applied for hack club stardance ambassador. In this role you put up posters and host meetups locally for the upcoming stardance program. I applied since I can drive, and plus I love hack club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im also considering on starting my horizons project. Ive been thinking about some really cool world building, but I also wonder if im perhaps biting off more than i can chew... oh well! speaking of biting and chewing i also got to try some limited time krispy kreme donuts that go away soon it was really yummy wow. and and and and i ALSO got some cool github stuff from haxmas.

Day 115 / 365 Today was very nice! I had a hackclub meeting! feels refreshing given my last one was 28 DAYS AGO 😭 anyways we held my custom workshop stuff (that i did through #C0AE5L0N70Q go check it out if your a club leader) and we did go over the time by an hour like always. It was fine, since this time the library was fully booked (and has barely any availability for the summer), so we actually just held it at a church instead. My 2 hackclub members, both of whom are brothers if your curious, go to this church and their family is like a core member of that community or something like that. either way we were able to use the empty building for the meeting. it went really good! everyone was able to turn in a brick breaker game in 3 hours. Even my brother joined in, which is rare. I think the reason it took 3 instead of 2 was because I gave a lot of indepth information about godot and such. After that I went bowling! and I did all this while wearing one of my favorite shirts, my kirby gradient shirt thing (check attached image) so overall good day :)

Day 100 / 365 It is day 100! 27% into the year. Lets do a slight recap! Major things i did: • Made most of my aces game • Bought hytale and got into modding immediately • Made a small roblox game with friends • Finally published one turret on steam • Attending a hackathon (hackclub campfire) • Made a game for ceiling seal ysws • Made a project ysws (which i was going to host tommorow but all my club members said they are out of town) Things that I still have left to do from my original list in the slack thread: • Get One Turret "Polish Update" out • Host a hackclub ysws (I mean a full scale online one) • Learn and do a bit more about hardware • Make a library/tool/extension to/for something Anyways for my actual day today. Day 91 / 365 Hello guys. Today. I shall be quitting computer stuff to persue my true dream of baking. rather than my youtube name being kaplin86gamer it will now be kaplin86baker. i made a good debut video on how to make a pie thing. you should watch it. hack club do not smite me for advertisement. please. anyways one turret april fools i tried to draw some anime character version of the bullets in the game. No wonder i barely draw humans 😭 still got work to do so i guess update will be sometime this week idk. (also the baking stuff was april fools if that wasnt obvious enough)

Day 87 / 365 Today I had a hackclub meeting! I uh sorta had to wing it again since i didnt have any material planned, so I followed this cute village tutorial on jams.hackclub.com with my club. It actually turned out really good! Though another thing was for some reason the library was double booked and had a big lego event happening in the room i had scheduled, so my club got moved to the library's giant auditorium! wasnt the best since it made it harder to move to my members to help them. I also played around with hytale world gen today. i think i figured out rivers, and its painfully simple (subtracting a constant number from the density lowers it a few blocks, so i just do that to apply the river physically using noise, then fill it by replacing air in a certain density with water). Only issue is that it is far from realistic, but it might make a good tutorial later. infact i should probably redo my hytale tutorials since a handful of things have changed.

flavortown project 😄 so am makning a bot for the hack club streaming platform! hackclub.tv i have worked on making env work so i dont hard code it a coinflip cmd! and a random zach latta quote command using a old api made “zapi-seven.vercel.app/quote/random” where i also had to find out how to make it not be the same quote everytime but i found out i could just put it in the @bot.command and then it loads the api everytime and gives a new one :D i also made sum boring debuging like when it goes on the channel it prints 67 and a simple ?ping cmd that just says its on buddy and prints for logs this is made using a vibe coded wrapper i made .D github.com/christianwell/hctvwrapper

Days 31-34/365: - The calculator works I guess, I put it back together since there's no point in using only half of a perfectly good calculator - Learned a bit more about electrical engineering at my afterschool robotics club (of which EE hasn't met in months)! Day 17/365 Today I made a low quality hytale custom biome mod tutorial, alongside wrote a script for a better video. Had a hack club meeting!!! Today we did polygon, whilst eating grub we got from grub :D It was pretty fun but we did run over time. We ran overtime so much that we had to leave because the library closed! However my dad was talking with his boss (my dad's boss' sons attend my hackclub) and we are going to arrange a new venue, one where i wont be stressed about going over the time limit. I did not work on aces today. Oh well. You win some you lose some.

Day 16/365 I published my hytale mod from yesterday onto curseforge, and it already has 100 downloads!! Most of the day I was playing around with hytale lol (And doing irl stuff). I also started work on my first draft for the hackclub magazine! Tommorow after my club meeting im going to try and lock in on aces. If I dont have 30 hours in by the time my classes start on monday im gonna be worried!

Day 50: The final day! • Nearly finished w/ adding devlogging to Milkyway Pets. All that remains is to make the submit button work :yay-mimi: • Parent call for Overglade! My parents are mostly okay with my going, which is good because I'm planning to get the ticket within the next ~2 days :hyperfastyay: • Messaged my friends about meeting up in the new year. Looking back on this now, the 11th of November seems both so recent, and such a long time ago. While I'd be lying if I said I've changed much as a person, the past 50 days have made me realise that challenges that might seem daunting or even impossible (earning my drivers licence, attending an international Hack Club event) are a lot less scary if you just set your goals and slowly and surely work your way towards them. Day. By. Day. And of course, having a community that can encourage you and has your back makes a huge difference :) I'm probably gonna do a proper writeup sometime in the next week, but until then you can find me chipping away at my goals over in #C09PQFWEC8N|.
