Day 214 / 365 I didnt do much today in terms of programming or coding, but i still felt happy about today :) Most of my time and energy was eaten up by me driving my mom to the airport. well, driving the car back. Originally she was going to go to the local airport, but we had to go to an airport a few hours away since her flight got cancelled for whatever reason. odds are it was the rain maybe. i dont really know lol. but tommorow i should be free, free!! yay!! no comments about the doodle for today lol

Day 212 / 365 I worked a bit on my game "one turret" today!! yay!! I got the turret inventory to work with the recode stuff :). I was debating on whether to have map manager, turret manager, or enemy manager handle adding items into the turret, but ultimately opted to just adding it as a function of the map resource. The map resource effectively acts as a save. this is actually the same on how it worked before the recode, just now its a godot resource instead of a renamed zip file. and as for my yomi hustle mod, I got the summon to be able to get influenced by a thingamajig that happens every action, but i still need to fine tune the flying. I also had some bundt cake that was pretty good (forgot to get a photo)

Day 206 / 365 Most of my day was taken up by going to my brother's swim meet. yay. when i got home i got back on that grind for GMTK. I will be finishing it tonight, even if i need to stay up late for it lol!! I love the grind!! Yay!! The game will atleast loop, but il see how i feel about trinkets once im done. I think i need to focus on more items first. Maybe I can add trinkets in the little time at the beginning of tommorow before the jam closes.

Day 203 / 365 Today was really cool and good because GMTK started!! yay!! i decided to team up with my friend regonold (same guy who helped me make gnArp bAll, Souletrakk, Month of management, Culorz, and To Scale A Mountain) and since the theme is "Counting down", we tried to think of games with a lot of counting down. One that came to mind were those cooking games where every single little thing had a timer, so now we are making one of those. Except we are taking a page out of the gnArp bAll book with space theming. So now its a game where your in a space food truck, moving from planet to planet, and you need to cook meals on your journey before you reach the planet. Well you dont have to, but you will be penalized if you dont. and we are also going to try adding engine building. we will lock in more tommorow since my partner in crime had a tiring day before the jam started so he wasnt able to do much.

Day 200 / 365 I worked some more on one turret! I got a cool little icon to appear whenever you have a recipe you havent used yet this run. I also did some cool stuff with how it behaves with combinations of two items. It only provides the notification if both ingredients are already discovered, that way you dont constantly have a notification for something you cant even get yet! yay! i love ez design! I also watched this really good youtube video by Blargis about how to make a good roguelite. I took a lot of notes and I now feel really studious!! I love studying game design!! yay!! Im probably going to apply some of this stuff in my GMTK submission when that starts in 2 days.

Day 193 / 365 Hi guys its me kaplin yay!! I dont have much to talk about today lol. Im no longer at the staycation. now im at my house. Im going to get back on that programming grind tommorow. As for today, I mostly watched my friend play a game i got him during steam sale. So yeah thats fun. I REALLY want to lock in on one turret, so thats probably what i will code tommorow!! and i will probably yap about how i love coding!!! so joyous!!!

Day 188 / 365 I tried to wake up early today, But ended up sleeping through my alarm. So I wouldnt say I was too productive lol. At most I really just did some of that summer schoolwork ive been meaning to do. Finally finished this massive assignment. I also got some games from the summer sale on steam! And I 100% stacklands! And I got the stacklands dlc which was also on sale! yay!

Day 185 / 365 Today was certainly something. woke up fairly early compared to usual, and me and the friend who was over from the sleepover played some more pokemon legends za. He beat the final boss, alongside doing the extra quests to get xerneas and yveltal (sorry for the spoilers) (honestly you probably could have expected those pokemon to be in the game if you know anything about the kalos region so uh apologies revoked i guess). When I tried working on my game, One Turret, today, I for whatever reason just... kept blanking. Like i wasnt able to think at all in a programming way. programmers block or something. So I played a bunch of stacklands instead! really fun game. I love it a lot. Ive had this one run going on for a while, and I finally got around to finishing the final bosses of the game. The run is at moon 203, and I got all the basegame cards unlocked + really good auto food system. So i think the only thing left in the game is just the endless waves, oooor i could buy the dlc >:) i might. maybe. This is such a long post so far but i still have more to say!! After I beat stacklands, I then worked a bit on one turret. Fully, 100% confirmed that enemies work in the new system :yay: . I did some thinking on my game Router Rebellion. Lil game I made for horizons ysws. And I was thinking... the gameplay SUCKS. I REALLY dont like it. So i was thinking, when was the last time i made a turn based game? So i think i might retry the project since ive been dying to create it (ive written all the world and lore and stuff) but instead take an almost paper-mario-style approach to battles. There will still be a factory system where you can customize using nodes / pieces / modules. I might make a prototype when GMTK happens since I plan on doing that. well, that is if the theme allows for it :) oh happy 4th of july to my readers in the U.S (like me i read this). my family did light some small fireworks in our backyard like we do every year :)

Day 183 / 365 3 more days. Anyways today was fun cause i lowkey didnt really do anything productive i dont think. im trying to recall aaaand i dont think i did much of anything. I made the one turret artfight profile! Speaking of one turret, I coded on that game a bit more, and I got the new enemy system to spawn enemies fully!! yay!! well now i have to check all the old enemies code and make sure it still works.

Day 172 / 365 I got home from the trip aaaaaand i dont really have much to comment lol!!1 played some modded minecraft with (extended) friendgroup :) (by extended its like themain friendgroup plus a few extras from a diffferent one its like colaborative idk) and since my friend regonold's pi is terrible at hosting im buying a server for the group so now im working on getting a good modpack yay also idk what the doodle is supposed to be

It's me, Ethan Hawksley, and I've just finished pushing out another large update to my site hawksley.dev! I've written a new blog post, all about how you can add JSON-LD to your own personal websites to improve how crawlers see them: hawksley.dev/blog/json-ld-explained-for-personal-websites It uses lots of examples from my own site, so you can easily copy-paste and edit to fit your own site. I've also now added my photo to my website too! It's in all the link previews, and on my home page. However, I was intentionally really careful when I added it. To maximise performance, I used the AVIF image format, with a PNG fallback. I've also inlined a low-resolution base64 AVIF directly into the html of my home page, so that it instantly loads in when you visit, and a higher quality AVIF loads on top of that once the page has finished loading. I'm really happy with how it turned out, the image is only 2.5KB! After some careful rearranging of my home page, it also fits in just under the size requirement for the first TCP packet group at 14KB, meaning it only requires one round trip with cloudflare for it to load. My PageSpeed Insights score is still 100/100/100/100

I was done with doomscrolling Instagram so i made an app that only lets you see posts from your friends (works on the official instagram app btw). apart from this banger feature, it has a suite of features like • block apps, short form videos, websites • count how many reels/shorts you scroll • many more (idk too long to paste here) All Free and Open Source! Day 167 / 365 Heheh. heheheh guys. guys. if you. if you remove the one. its. its. 6. 7. kyajyaYA so funny right right right (i regret everything). Today was good i liked it a lot. Since its summer im going to be meeting with my hack club more, and we met up today!! yay!! We were originally going to meet at the church at 1 (1 hour than usual), but due to some stuff my two hack clubbers didnt actually have anyone to drive them, and their dad was at work so he couldnt open the church for us. so we instead decided to meet at the library, which took them an hour to get a ride from their oldest sibling since they were out at their part time or something. i think. im going to be frank i dont really know im just guessing lol. anyways. we ended up at the library at 2. We just sat at this one really small table, our laptops making a triangle in the center lol. We worked an hour on our hackpads, designing the pcbs!! as for my godot wild jam submission, I eventually got the custom texture upscaler to a good point, and i also made a working "basic brickbreaker" loop for me to add my weird stuff ontop of!

Here's that diagram for how the program currently interacts with itself. • Anything purple (besides the background) is a temporary connection/file. • Anything green needs re-worked • The "Services" group contains files that are completely static in use, and are accessible globally. It's still a bit messy, but that's partly due to the temporary/need re-worked files. There's a still some spaghetti code due to that. The shader files I do look a lot like spaghetti as well, but that is mostly do to positioning. It's pretty basic, as the ui/ and system/ dirs aren't in there either (system/ is simulations + any computations that would need to be done (ex. translating data for one renderer to another)).

Day 164 / 365 Today was generally cool. Had to wake up early to bring my brother to swim. Then the two of us got some breakfast after at a resturant and it was cool and good. Then i went home, played for an hour, then left again lol. But this time, to a hack club meeting!!!!!!!!!!!! While previously my club was every other week, now that summer has started we are going to every week. Infact, we are actually going to be try doing it a bit sooner than every week. Im planned to meet up with them on tuesday. Anyways, In our meeting today we didnt really do a workshop. Instead, I got them started on hack club stardance ysws!!! Yay!! We were trying to come up with projects to do (i even brought the hack club magazine for inspo) and we eventually decided the 3 of us would make hackpads through the stardance hackpad mission thing. So uh yeah. We got started on that. If i remember correctly, we got the schematic made and next we are to actually make the pcb. But to be honest we were having some issue with hackatime (because im dumb) and we only started using lapse half way through to track time. Its even worse for me since i accidentally stopped my first recording, so i deleted it and made a new one. Oh well! I have a feeling we have plenty more hours left on this project.

Day 149 / 365 Today was... somehow more unproductive than yesterday!! >:C But it was a generally fun day even though I didnt play that many games. I worked 20 minutes on my horizons quiz game project thing, adding in some cool preview images for each of the gamemodes. I also got "deleting" datasets to work. In reality it just changes it so it hides the quiz. If you attempt to add a new quiz using the same csv, it will just toggle it back to being visible, that way all the configs for that quiz are still saved! Rest of my day was spent out of the house with my dad and brother. I dropped my brother of at swim and ended up just having a bonding moment with my dad at the closest mall. Its a generally unoccupied mall. not a lot of buisness happens there (in terms of the internal mall stuff. the clothes stores and resturants on the outside of it do get a lot of buisness though). me and my dad walked through and had a chat, even walking into a craft store. didnt buy anything but still chatted. We also got some handsoaps that we thought my mom would like :) We got two of a vanilla almond one. One for me. Because I liked it. :yay: i love vanilla smelling things. and cinnamon! anyways after that me, my brother, and my dad went to applebees. im mentioning this because thats like a once-in-a-blue-moon-during-a-solar-eclipse thing and its lowkenuinly been like 3 years. when we got home it turns out my mom had recently gotten hand soaps. so now we just have 15 things of hand soap. please help. 5 hand soaps per sink including the kitchen😭 and on my horizons stuff. I think ive ultimately come to the conclusion that im NOT going to be going to nexus for various reasons. One of the reasons is the hours required. Especially given hackclub stardance is happening soon. I plan to be starting a thing with my club to get them into stardance so they can make some stuff. Also that club ysws, and other stuff. Im going to be getting a lot busier soon so im less confident in getting the hours. other reason is I dont think i really want to go anymore. Dont get me wrong it sounds fun but like. is it really worth all the hours? I mean I definently think I had great memories at hackclub shiba, but that was a whole week. nexus, last i checked, is a nonstop hackathon over a weekend. So yeah uh. i think im going to cash my hours and possibly move my study app to a different program (i hear macondo has a lot of good prize options). If i were to ship my moved aces project as is, i would most likely get 2 steam game grants (for publishing a game on steam) and 4 blahaj plushies :)

Day 133 / 365 Hi guys! I did some pretty cool stuff on my horizons game today :) I gave godot editor scripts a try for the first time so I can make a dialogue editor for my game to fit all the things i need (since doing it by hand would be a nightmare). I had a lot of trial and error. At first I was trying to make it so when it starts the command, it asks for a file, and then once you choose one it loads that resource into my dialogue editor, but for whatever reason it just... wouldnt work. i was running a simple await on a signal, but it never emit the signal? anyways i just reworked it so you press a load button in the editor to load the dialogue lol. Also played a bit more mindustry with friends :yay: (we didnt get too far into the map even after 3 hours)

you've seen the lanyard.cnrad.dev discord status embed generator thing. its cool, you can embed your discord profile into your website. yay! but what about your hackclub slack profile..? to my knowledge nobody made such a thing yet... hi! i made slacktivity!! its a slack bot (hello @slacktivityspy )/api that lets you generate live svgs/pngs of your profile, and supports embedding everywhere!! even in this very slack post (although slack cdn caching wont make the preview live-updated unless you click on it) heres the github, the api docs are in there somewhere. to get started, you can try /slacktivity-help and /slacktivity-register, then /slacktivity-preview!! hope you have fun using it, i definitely had fun making it. 14h 25m acc. to hackatime as of post! made for #C07UZSKJQRX, with <3 from @revi & the Icarus Alliance (+ Kai) (p.s. its hosted on nest, so it may be kinda slow. apawlogies!!)

Day 122 / 365 Today was amazing! My parents and brother were out of town so i was completely unbothered most of the day!! yay!!! I worked 3 hours on my horizons game. I switched to godot nodes but I got my system to fully work! You can connect, disconnect, delete, and add nodes and it properly adds it. I also found a good way to define nodes using resources. And to top it all off, I also got the actual processing part done, so now I can input an item into the factory layout and get the outputs ! Tommorow I will work on getting a more seamless popup to go to the factory menu while controlling the player character. Might even spend a bit of time trying to format godots graph system to be more stylized.

You! You're a human right? So you probably don't need this project, but maybe some apps that you built do! I’m Akaalroop and I’ve… never touched or built a backend in my life but I like Rust, so I decided to try it out! I built an API which converts words: like “seven hundred and forty-three” to numbers your app can use, like 743! As you can imagine the logic for doing that isn't too difficult, but it was the API itself that took most of the time. Setting up a parser, receiving requests, returning errors or responses, dealing with incorrect data, etc. All without a single framework or parser library used! And I used no AI either! Day 114 / 365 Hello my silly goobers and other readers whom are not silly nor goober, Today was a good day :) I worked quite a bit on that One Turret recode so now tiles are position rather than direction based for inputs and outputs!! yay!!! Played some games with my friends (in particular i was playing some fungakas since the whole friend group got steam keys for beta testing. go wishlist it please) (not sponsored). Since i made the bad idea of staying up late yesterday i was tired towards the later half of today. I tried to make a new-and-improved hytale video since all the other world gen v2 tutorials are outdated, but I was a bit too tired for that + i need to practice a bit since Its been a long while since ive even touched hytale. for the image today i uh. i drew something. i dont exactly know what this means but i just wanted to have fun with the effects in paint dot net since ive lowkey never played around with it even after using the software for a long while. i suppose the meaning is up to interpretation, like all true art.

Day 113 / 365 Today was something. Since my dad is now getting sick (guess the whole family is getting it huh) we didnt go to tutor at the local church so personally I find that a W. I mean dont get me wrong, it feels good to help people, but its just really tiring and the kids we tutor arent very nice. like at all. anywhom, in this extra time, me and my brother were going to go to a honors society meeting thing, but turns out the community college was holding a spring event with a bunch of different booths in the courtyard. Because of this they didnt actually hold a meeting, but we did get some free shaved ice. yay! Anywhom outside of personal life stuff, I worked a bit on one turret and started implementing the changes I mentioned on day 110. Now it uses a different format that basically dissolves the idea of "directional inputs and outputs" and is now "grid location inputs and outputs", which doesnt change much YET but when I add something like catapults it will be very useful lol. Anyways my flavortown sidequest wont be happening, but it isnt cancelled. Instead, it will be something else now. But im not going to say what happened to it yet LOLL bababhahmam im so EVVILL RAAHHHH anyways given the whole "transparency values" in hackclub you could probably find what its going to end up being lol. Day 112 / 365 Nothing too crazy happened today. After my classes I finished that flavortown sidequest stuff yesterday. yay. Then I really just chilled. I wasnt really in that coding mode yknow? Day 111 / 365 Wow day 111 thats like 3 of the same number so cool. Anyways today the first thing i was greeted to when I woke up was an offer to make my summer internship thing a flavortown sidequest!! yay!! so since i didnt have anything out of the house today (yay homeschool) I spent alll day on it. And by it, I mean making a simple api for people to use for making multiplayer games since thats the theme of my sidequest. I also made a example project. But since im genuinly an idiot I was having a bit of trouble with getting a dev build to set up, im now making my sidequest stuff without actually being able to see it on the dev build. yaaay. so good. I would ask the person who reached out to me for help, but since they live in a different timezone they are offline. Now if I was an actually smart person I would have done the actual sidequest part done first. but nooo i just had to go straight to my little gizmos, and now im paying the price. Now im making my sidequest stuff at midnight with 1 hour till my its been 24-hours-since-i-was-asked-to-do-this. but hey if gaming has taught me anything, you can only jump to the sky if you start on the ground!!1!

Day 104 / 365 I was busy today because of the induction ceremony for honors society at the local community college. My brother got inducted. Now we are both honors society peeps who are way younger then the main demographic via dual enrollment!! yay!! From this i mostly just chilled instead of programming, but my dad gave me an open ai api key so I could do a little test on something. I had an idea on how i would remake a old game of mine, called "data driven detective". The scratch-mod platform it was on no longer supports the ai extension they had so the game is unplayable, so a "data driven detective deluxe" is well due. my first experiment was trying to get 5 ai characters (each based on characters in from friendgroup) into a discussion on who murdered some guy right. I made it fairly obvious who it was in the actual timelines (all except one character has an alibi), and yet after various reruns they are STILL failing to vote the correct individual. Maybe this is what i get for using the smallest model. Might try to add some extra stuff like note-taking or something idk. They are mostly just shrugging off clear conflicts in stories

1. Just creating another app project: WaterCycle! (Yay) A brand new SwiftUI app to measure your water usage through a simple device which uses an ESP32 and a water flow sensor to calculate water flow and how much water is wasted (mentioned the word water too much). It uses a WiFi connection from the ESP32 and has habit and challenges functions to fix your excess water usage, with live data-pulling whenever you want. By the way my soldering iron died :sadge:

Day 92 / 365 I woke up really early so I could get started on my homework early. Tommorow I have barely any homework now so I should be able to wipe out the rest of the one turret late april fools update! yay! also the little doodle for my posts going forward will now have a chance to have gray in it rather than black and white, if it helps the drawing. Fun fact i have lost 2 subscribers from my april fools youtube video.

Hi! I'm working on my second (or first idk) megaproject! And for some reason I chose to call it egg labs 🐣 (insert skulkest emoji). Its a free catalogue of tools (™️) for everyone! Current it has..... drum roll please..... NO FEATURES 💀 (yay!) Well it has a partially done buggy sign up system that I'm fixing somehow. Day 86 / 365 Its kaplin(86) day!! yay!!!!!! anyways in one of my classes today i was the only one with a presentation finished so i had to present when nobody else was. though it was a pecha kucha (20 slides 20 seconds each) about my game dev journey so it wasnt THAT stressful. Anyways when I got home I finished up that overdose awareness game for my mom. After that I tried to make a utauloid of myself because that sounded funny. though I was having some technical difficulties and sorta gave up when i was pulled away from the computer for dinner. Rest of the day i sorta just felt tired. Sadly didnt do all that much. The hackclub summer internships came in, and i didnt get in. But there will likely be other opportunities, plus i might just host the ysws myself in the summer. also going forward i will be trying to add little doodles of my character guy oc thing every post based on what i wrote, since its day 86

Day 82 / 365 I didn't have that much homework (probably since i just got off spring break) so i had plenty of time today! I chilled and played some games, bug tested my two of my friend's game, and also worked on one turret! Im doing a task ive been anticipating for a while, which is rewriting one turrets main script, which dates back to roughly 2 years ago. It is really bad. over 1400. doesnt sound that bad, but its mostly the contents thats the issue. that chunk of code handled too much stuff, like tile placing, tile simulation, loading all the tile, type, and recipe data, handling enemy cash reward, handling waves (not the spawning), having death screen, and even more junk. Plus a lot of stuff is hardcoded in there too. Im remaking the system from the ground up (sorta), where its the same script but broken up into multiple nodes. So far I got through a simple tile manager, simulation manager, and rendering manager. This new system, rather than hardcoding behaviors, will now contact external static scripts to figure out what to do. I got conveyors working in this new system :) making changes to this system later will be MUCH easier too! the new system also fixes a visual bug thats ALWAYS been in the game where the item will dissapear for a frame when jumping conveyors. video attached is what i got so far (conveyors slowed down for demonstration purposes) also only a few days until day 86! :yay: get it because like kaplin86 okay i will see myself out thank you

Figured out how to do the steam announcement stuff thingies, so now theres a steam news post for the changelog. yay! outside of that, I did some homework and also basically finished the chef job datapack bit from last log. Ive been getting a handful of bug reports so i have a lot to fix for tommorow!! Since I dont have any meaningful screenshots today, here is one of my friend's winning one-turret beach map factory loadout. hes the first person EVER to get the beat-the-beach-map steam achievement :D so uh yeah you can copy this if you want lol. have a great day!

day 43 • took a walk. It was actually really nice and I'm going to try to do that everyday • learnt about ai search. It's pretty cool how you can have a model up and running by just using a library and 50 lines of code • productivity 2/5. constantly distracted by movies/youtube/konkrio/mancala/music/whatever else I looked up today • going to birthday party yay • kind of annoyed that I need to upload photos for scrappy to count my post. I'll just be the daily meme guy from now on ig:shrug:

Day 41 / 365 Somehow I think I ended up doing less than yesterday?!?!?! Anyways I gave another go at trying to make a progress bar ui in hytale. I started by using the MultipleHUD mod as a dependency so then my mod can co-exist with other mods. Took a while and bug fixing to get working, but I eventually got a label to show up, yay!! how amazing and totally great!! If you couldnt tell, a label is not a progress bar. But rather than making the UI once, it basically makes a new one every tick, so I think tommorow I just need to make it where a colored box element changes in width based on a character stat. I think. we will see.
