โข Iโve made publishing packages super easy now, all you need to do is craw init to create the package, and then craw pkg publish. As long as youโre signed into CPM and gh, itโll just work
โข Iโve added Markdown support for CPM packages ๐ฅ Next Steps:
โข Once you get 1 command working, many more will follow! Thatโs right, a command line written 100% in Crawssembly code ๐ฅ
โข Iโve decided to add a heap library to complement the stack library. Doing this should make my next idea easier
โข This is also my official announcement that Iโll be doing much less programming, due to summer holiday starting now. This is because I canโt program during family time, camping weeks, and other events. In addition, I have University after summer holidays, so this reduced productivity will continue throughout the rest of Stardance. Personally day 23 (but i've been coding consistently for 24 days hehe)
Working on my two concurrent projects!! Going to post only about the music one for now. (prev post) but I just got the filter by genre system working! It feels really nice for it to work (although admittedly a little lag happens whenevr you do do that oopsies)
Anyway the backend for searching and stuff is written in rust and it works surprisingly well with Godot (after a lot of trial and error in days past). I'm feeling a little conflicted as to what the point of the project should be; whether or not I should add a music playing capability. I recently realized the NowPlaying thing is impossible except for Linux, so it's just become a library search / metadata editor (which is already possible with tools like Picard) so I'm wondering if I should just make it a music player+music manager so you can just listen and edit. Thoughts??@tanjim0hihi! i made my own ssh client in rust! (partially while in a huddle with @oodlia ju)! i implemented all the crypto math myself (i did not just import some off the shelf ssh library). this is pretty much the first rust project i have made.
it was kinda hard because when you get the math wrong you don't get a friendly "hey you got this math wrong" and the compiler/debugger doesnt help, you just get a "connection closed" from the server and that could mean anything
what do you think?๐ข๐ฅ@Akaalroop0You! You're a human right? So you probably don't need this project, but maybe some apps that you built do! Iโm Akaalroop and Iโveโฆ never touched or built a backend in my life but I like Rust, so I decided to try it out! I built an API which converts words: like โseven hundred and forty-threeโ to numbers your app can use, like 743! As you can imagine the logic for doing that isn't too difficult, but it was the API itself that took most of the time. Setting up a parser, receiving requests, returning errors or responses, dealing with incorrect data, etc. All without a single framework or parser library used! And I used no AI either! It was a challenge but I'm proud of myself. So I hope you enjoy v1.0.0 and give it a try!

I think I've been overwhelmed by how cool and structured my friends' projects have been (y'all are so cool I could never :hs:), and forced myself to maintain that standard, which is why I burned out/got frustrated. I'll try learning and building using a slower approach that lets me learn all the fundamentals (I keep saying slower approach but you get what I mean I think)
Anyways... it's been a whole month! and some change. I've mostly been struggling to plan out bigger and better projects, and I think I need to step back and work on my toolchain for a bit. I started learning rust! yippee!
I also spent half of last month watching One Piece, and the other half playing minecraft (regular survival and Liminal Industries) so hopefully I don't do that again

๐๏ธ๐ง @hex40:50days: day 50
I am writing this at 12:21 AM, January 1st, 2026, which technically means that I missed my update for today, but who cares?
Today, after not getting a lot of sleep, I mostly prepared all of my goodbyes and tried to tie up loose ends. Spent much too long drafting my holy yapparonie for #C0818RRJGDA|, dropped a fragment for an ARG (:eyes_shaking:), and dmed a few people that I still have stuff to finish up with.
you know, this is my own challenge and i've only achieved 2/8 of my goals. I didn't ship Fireside, learn Rust, or finish #C09MJJV82QY|. I missed 3 days. many of my updates were nothing burgers. but maybe that's not what really mattered. maybe what did matter was coming back (mostly) every single day, trying my absolute hardest to make these 50 days count. and I think I succeeded. I made two projects that made people smile, I solved a bunch of AoC puzzles, I learned about code organization in Godot, and I kinda understand Rust now?
I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. Maybe this under-13 fiasco is just an elaborate prank. Maybe they're going to give me a few extra days here. As I write this, I'm still living in the world where my Slack account is active. I have no clue what's going to happen next - tomorrow, over these 3 months, over the next 3 years. But I'm grateful I got to hack and build during these 50 days alongside all of you.
catch you on the flip side <3
(also, yes, hand reveal )
๐ค๐ข@hex40:50days: day 21!!
day 2 of AoC! part 1 was easy enough (but my solution took 30 seconds on a powerful desktop pc :fear:) but part 2 has me rethink my strategy. regex, of course, was the way to go. part 2 solves in ~3s on the same machine which isn't terrible but i'd like to get it lower! also did some more rustlings :rust: maybe i can solve the next puzzles in Rust?
@ingobeans0i made a game to help lighten spirits in these dark winter times, called winternight! its really cute and wholesome (and short). made in rust for siege :siege:
hope you like it :>

๐ฎ๐ข@lily0decided to start learning some machine learning stuff using scikit learn!
ive already built a simple file search tool that uses natural language to search, you enter a query, and it searches your files for the answer to it, and when it finds a file, it finds whatever line best matches that question!
i tried it with a few wikipedia articles, but i've just downloaded the top 100 articles in ZIM format to see how it handles a larger size, just gotta parse ZIM into plaintext
hope to make this better in the future, make it a nice interface and be something youd actually like to use (maybe a rust rewrite with TAURI as the UI, i am learning rust afterall)
@ingobeans0hello!! last week I made a super mario maker inspired game for siege, called Goblin Maker! you can build and share levels, and browse levels made by other people!
Github: github.com/ingobeans/goblin-maker
Itch: gnarmi.itch.io/goblin-maker
the game was written in rust, but the server is a flask app hosted on Nest. entire project took about 35 hours :>
i'd love it if you checked it out (you can play in your browser)! make some levels! thanks <3
๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ข@logabe0Day 4 of :50days:: I spent most of today coding
โข Spent a while trying to implement a system tray icon for Milkyway Pets. Spent a while attempting to implement a system tray icon for Milkyway Pets. SDL3 is fairly new, so the Rust bindings I'm using didn't have a wrapper for the tray API - meaning I had to implement my own. I don't know whether it was the way I wrote it, but the API just wouldn't play nice with WaitEvent, which blocks the application until events occur, reducing CPU usage. In the end I went for a hybrid solution which updates a minimum 4 times per second, or whenever events occur. Hopefully this will suffice until I can work out the kinks in the API (and maybe even merge it upstream ๐)
โข Did some thinking on my YSWS
โข Bunch of housework lol
๐๏ธ@ShyMike0woah how is the year almost over :O
anyways, i want to:
โข lock in on studying
โข get rustytime to a more presentable/easy to use state :)
โข run a cool ysws :3
โข be more active in my personal channel (#C08NMR6KS8L|)

โข get better at rust
โข do good at ***** (can't leek it yet :c)
โข finish/redo my website (it's been wip for months now)
๐@louisa0project 2 (oct 14 - oct 28) - finishing the basic stuff with cursedOS
in todays episode of genuinely losing my mind bc of rust ...we have:
removed the fancy login because it kinda started breaking stuff and now i have a very simple but functional version and i also added shift esc as a way to get out of the login flow lol. there are levels to this omg :heavysob:@louisa0project 2 (oct 14 - oct 28) - finishing the basic stuff with cursedOS
day 7 - today i started working on memory management for cursedOS :
1. well starting the implementation (commit)
2. updating it + translation (commit)
for some context cursedOS is a...well cursedOS @/guacmd and have been working on! pretty much all of it up until now was made on nano on a macbook that was running arch linux so this is the first time im working on it on a code editor with rust analyser which as been so awesome lol
this is what's going on so far
@louisa0project 1 (oct 5 to oct 18) - my personal website getting a much needed revamp
day 6 - was supposed to post yesterday but got caught up in fd work ๐ญ all i did was add the embed as seen in v1peridae.me:heavysob: i've been working on waht im gonna teach meghana today! i think im ready to ship the site then finish up working on CursedOS (rust os) !
๐ข๐ฅ@ShyMike0haven't posted here in a while but i just finished (the mvp) for my project rustytime :D (currently at ~75h)
โข what is it? It's like :wakatime: WakaTime but FOSS and made with a :rust: Rust backend, :svelte: Sveltekit frontend and :postgres: TimescaleDB (Postgres extension)
โข why? I though it would be a cool project :colon3:
โข is it good? Idk :shrug_y2: but you can judge it for yourself here :P
โข is it fast? It's pretty speedy! Over 1500 heartbeats/second on my machine!
repo: github.com/ImShyMike/rustytime (you should give it a star )
please send stuff you think i should add in the thread :)
edit: also check out timesplit if you want to use this + hackatime at the same time! (ship post here)๐ข@kkrishguptaa0Mapped out the architecture I'm going to build Hatchet in. โจ It will use 4 different databases, postgres, scylladb, redis and opensearch. The clients will be written in TypeScript with React, expo + react-native for mobile, nextjs for the web and tauri for desktop. Backend will be written primarily in Rust and Golang with one microservice in Python. It will use Cloudflare R2 for file uploads, Signal Protocol for Encryption. Very excited about using Kafka (I have no idea how it works, but I guess its needed for this one).
@Lexy0I have implimented RSA encryption in Rust, though I am currently trying to optimise the prime generation which is provided by num-primes.
@ingobeans0TOAD is a CLI web browser written in rust, by me! im super proud of it, and i even wrote the HTML and CSS parsers from scratch. it doesnt have JS but im fine with that, it would just be too large of a scope for this project. you can fully use websites like <http://duckduckgo.com|duckduckgo.com> or <http://wikipedia.com|wikipedia.com>. the whole project was about 55hrs, and it was really fun!
SoM link: <https://summer.hackclub.com/projects/11362>
it breaks easily and CSS parsing can take like a full second on page load
๐ข๐๏ธโ๏ธ@Akaalroop0This message is a bit late ๐ , so itโs fasttttt. This is my first ever game in rust and I used Macroquad! I plan to deploy it on the web soon since macroquad makes that easy, but you can play it right now on Linux, Mac and Windows! Itโs called CloudCat and basically you have a cat, and rain clouds and your objective is to protect the cat using an umbrella (triggered for 3s via hitting the space bar)! I hand animated the cat & cloud and those are my first ever animations too!!
Check it out on SoM: summer.hackclub.com/projects/1359

๐ขโ๏ธ@virtualfuzz0day tree (three get it? no its a lame pun, okay..)
finished learning about go (literally was bored reading text) and watching a few talks about go (while playing roblox so that wasnt productive)
finally decided to work on a project, im going to be working on flit, which is a git copycat, that will be written in Go (wont be compatible with git repos because that was the original idea, but i dont know how to do that)
started writing some code for flit, definitely very interesting writing in go, im not sure if its better then rust but coding in it seems pretty cozy (currently working on the flit init command, which is just like the git init command)
@AamirA0I finally got my scrapbook account fixed, bummed custom domain's don't work, but it is ok. Today I started another new project. The name, mutter, is tbd but the idea is a user friendly way to generate subtitles using whisper (whisperx or whisper.cpp). I know there are a few of these out there but none of them seem to be maintained or plug in play enough for my liking. The tech stack I have decided on is Tauri + SvelteKit + TypeScript, tauri will allow the app to be packaged in a small binary and svelte will make the ui interactive and pretty. This will be a great way for me to try to learn rust too.
@AamirA0Chapter 2 of The Rust Book complete! I read and tried to understand the guessing game, and then coded it myself (with a little help)
๐ข๐ฅ@SkyfallWasTaken0A while ago, I made Vortex - an email shortener made with :ferris:Rust and :react:React!
However, the UI has always been lacking (to put it mildly), so I decided to make a bunch of improvements to the site:
โข Better colour usage and styling
โข Better 404/error pages
โข Email logos! When you get an email, it now shows the company logo to make things look nicer
โข Emails are now sorted in the list
โข Better styling for plain text emails in dark mode
โข You can now clear the emails from the server to improve privacy
โข SSR! Which means faster page loads and better SEO
โข Code quality is easily 10x better
โข Rust deps are now up to date
โข Redis is now the database for the site so that emails donโt get lost on updates
โข CI actually works now
Give it a try! vortex.skyfall.dev
Vortex has 12+ (sub)domains so you don't have to worry about getting blocked!
๐ข๐@jackson0Messing around with some rudimentary networking things. Rust makes my life worth living.
@Mish0For day 11 of my #C045S4393CY|, I finished the logic of the assembler for my Rusty-Man Computer project! I just have to add some more tests and write up some documentation about it, and then I'll have a fully-functional assembler for the Little-Man Computer system :P
You can take a look at all of today's work on the Github repo.
Here's a screenshot of it running (after a few Rust warnings that I might want to fix at some point)
@Mish0Today I worked on a Little-Man Computer assembler for my Rusty-Man Computer Rust project. After doing a lot of thinking and coding, I wrote all of the parsing logic in one go, to create something similar to an AST. That bit seems to have worked, which is great!
Next, I just need to create a symbol table to keep track of labels, and then actually converting the parsed structure to machine code.
I've implemented it by splitting each line into space-separated parts, and parsing each part (which also has to depend on if the first part is a valid opcode or not... I should probably just pop the first part off if it's a label so that the rest of the code can be consistent but that's for later me). This isn't as flexible as a proper parser (which would go character-by-character) but seems to work well for LMC assembly.
I'm pretty sure this is now day 10 of my #C045S4393CY|! ๐
๐๐๏ธ@Mish0Today was day 7 of my #C045S4393CY|, and while I don't have much to show, I started work on a new program in my Rusty-Man Computer project called rmc_assemble (an assembler for LMC assembly) that will be able to be used with the LMC emulator I've made.
I decided to develop this tool using test-driven development, because I can steal the example programs from the online simulator and use them as test data. Today I set up a test and a stub function, but haven't started implementing yet.
I also updated my project to the 2024 edition of Rust (which became stable this month). This didn't require any code changes.
Tomorrow I plan to continue working on the assembler program :)
@Mish0For day 7 of my #C045S4393CY|, I improved my bin_creator program (part of Rusty-Man Computer) by letting it accept multi-line input, because that's the format you get when you copy memory data from the online LMC simulator. This should make it much more convenient to use (previously, you had to manually remove the newlines). This involved learning how to get the last two digits of a string in Rust, which is a bit more involved than it sounds (I got away with line.chars().rev().take(2).collect::<String>())
I also wrote a script (build_binaries.sh) to use cross to cross-compile my code for 3 different target platforms, and then copy the generated binaries into a single folder to make them easy to upload to GH Releases.
Naturally, I used that script to publish my first release that contains pre-compiled binaries for multiple platforms, which you can read about at github.com/RandomSearch18/rusty_man_computer/releases/tag/v0.4.0
Next, I want to start work on an assembler tool to add to the project :D
๐๏ธ@Mish0For day 7 of #C045S4393CY|, I started work on automatic cross-compilation of Rusty-Man Computer for various platforms. I added a list of fully-supported platforms that I intend to build binaries for to the README, and set up a Github Action to use cross (Github) to compile the code for various platforms. (Of course, users can still run the Rust compiler themselves if they wish.) This is an important step for distributing my program and making it accessible to more people.
I also added 14 more tests to the code, which test that each individual instruction works correctly. This should make it easy to pin down any regressions during development in the future.
๐@Mish0Today in my Rust LMC emulatior, I implemented a custom integer struct that will only allow values between -999 and +999 (to match the behaviour of the online simulator). I wrote more about that change in pull request #6 (read the embed below :))
I learnt how to use modules for organisation and to keep my private fields private. I also wrote a whole bunch of tests (8 tests) for my struct's behaviour.
This marks my 5th day of #C045S4393CY|, which means I'm half-way to the 10-day goal! Tomorrow, I want to investigate cross-compiling my program with cross, working towards perhaps releasing a stable version. But for now, it's 7pm, and I should really be revising for my Physics mock tomorrow morning. Cya!
๐๏ธ@Mish0I'm working on my Rust Little Man Computer implementation for #C045S4393CY|. Today (day 2), I wanted to improve how output is presented to more closely match how the official simulator does it.
I tried representing the output as a Vec<[char; 4]>, toyed with the idea of a Vec<String>, before deciding to go back to a simple String and only split it into lines when rendering the output. A challenge came from trying to work out how the LMC simulator decides when to insert a line break: numbers on their own are always on their own line, but numbers with some letters after them all end up on the same line... but if I just print a 1 and a Space a bunch of times, there's a new line in between each iteration...
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the logic for those line breaks, so I haven't finished "fixing" my output-printing code, but the work-in progress commit is on GitHub.
๐@louisa0oops i misclicked, take two. heyya! today i
1. visited a dinner venue, it was pretty good id say, not as great as the atrium tho
2. learnt rust 15.1 & 15.2 !!!! i have not given up i sometimes just dont have as much time for rust with all the revision i need to be doing :heavysob:
@louisa0helloo! today i:
โข athena nbo, (now jua) - worked on emails + i think the budget is done now, i liked doing the math lol. also followed up w web dev.
โข rust - i infact did NOT stop learning rust lol. did ch.13. learning rust has been interesting, its just so many new concepts that ive never heard. (peep the ferris drawing)
@louisa0today i:
1. topic 12 in rust (i wasnt planning to do rust today then i remembered i have a scrapbook goal to stick to so i locked in)
2. fd stuff! a couple of meetings + introducing the new ppl in the FD defo make sure to say hi to the new fire fighters in #C01D7AHKMPF|
3. athena nbo! added more guests to the guests list + discussed some stuff ab new ppl + partner orgs with @/Dhriti Panchani
4. i feel like this is worth mentioning but a 4 hour nap lol
@TheRealCraig0I started my custom DNS server today. I started it in Rust, which was a bad idea. (Iโm a beginner and I donโt know anything about bits and DNS :heavysob:) At least itโll be fast anyway.@louisa01. finally figured out what was not making sense in rust form this amazing vid. my notes are all over the place for this so i will not be showing yall that :heavysob:
2. did some athena nbo emails + msgs
3. i had an idea, going in w/ impulsivity to make it happen (like i talked ab in my prev post)!
4. more robotics and we're back to DDE
scrappy doesnt like when i have links only :pf: so here's a pic of some code i wrote from what i learnt in rust tday
๐ค๐๏ธ@TheRealCraig0I got a bit more done on Slack Summarizer today; I added the Python OAuth server and I started working on the Rust side of it. My wifi was really slow for most of the day so hopefully itโs fixed tmrw.@kimax0Working on a number system convertor in rust, have the validation done for now
@louisa0today i did alot lol:
1. after lots of post office processes they found the LLM book :yay:')
2. i made my site mobile friendly + joined placeholder webring + minor updates
3. i started working on the dti site, changed up a lil bit about he concept and i need to figure out alot of animation stuff since atm its kinda basic
4. in the process of adding a new feature to LYLA (i just need to add an auto-deletion part to something)
5. no rust today </3
@louisa0today i:
1. ownership in rust (i will say this has been kinda hard) plus some kinds related stuff to do with memory in general. i think the whole concept of stacks and heaps is really neat.
2. also lots of mechanics in math, i feel like theres got to be an easier way to go about mechanics lol
3. ive still been trying to think of my next high seas project because as much as id wanna submit stuff like the slack hwf i feel like it doesnt really tick the criteria i set for myself for my high seas projects
